It has been eight months since the updated Tesla Model Y was launched in the US. However, until now, the much-awaited Performance model has yet to make its debut. Sure, Tesla secretly introduced an “Acceleration Boost,” which allows for a half-second quicker acceleration from a standstill, but a full-fat Performance trim is still M.I.A. The wait won’t be too long, though, as Tesla has already teased the Model Y Performance, and it’s launching soon.
On Tesla’s Europe and Middle East X account, the Texas-based automaker posted a “Spoiler alert,” accompanied by an abstract red teaser video, which we think is for the upcoming Model Y Performance. The 10-second footage ends with a date, which is tomorrow, August 29, 2025. Given the anticipation of the model and numerous sightings, we have every reason to believe that the upcoming launch is for the Model Y Performance.
Model 3 Performance Should Serve As A Benchmark
Information about the Tesla Model Y Performance is scarce at this point, but you don’t have to search far to find some clues. It’s likely that the go-fast version of the world’s best-selling EV in 2025 (but not the world’s best-selling vehicle) will have outputs similar to the Model 3 Performance, making 510 horsepower and 547 lb-ft of torque, sent to all four wheels via dual electric motors. The top speed is expected to exceed 125 mph.
In comparison, the old Tesla Model Y Performance produces a combined power output of 456 hp and 497 lb-ft of pulling power, allowing it to sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Given that the upcoming “Juniper” version is pegged to be more powerful, we’re expecting a quicker time to 60 mph, most likely quicker than 3 seconds. The range will likely drop below 300 miles based on EPA standards, but these are theoretical at this point, given that Tesla has implemented some battery upgrades on certain models.
Nürburgring Sightings Provide Some Clues
As for the design, the Model Y “Juniper” Performance will get all the updates from the old Model Y, and then some. Based on the car’s Nürburgring trip in June and other sources, we expect updates such as a new set of 21-inch wheels, an all-black headliner, updated brakes, bucket seats, a new carbon fiber spoiler, Performance badging, adaptive dampers, and redesigned front and rear bumpers.
That said, we’ll know more if our predictions hold true soon enough. Unfortunately, there isn’t an exact time listed for the launch, but you’ll hear from us as soon as it comes out. And, as the teaser was shown to Tesla’s audience in Europe and the Middle East, we expect the Model Y Performance to arrive there first. Hopefully, it won’t take long before its US arrival happens, because we all know the automaker could use a boost right now.
